Art in August is here! Every August for the past twenty years, Winchester businesses and artists have collaborated to turn the downtown area into an arts colony. In 2019, the 20th year of this unusual event, 28 professional artists and a large number of high school students have works on show during the entire month in the windows and inside of 24 downtown businesses. Now available:
- A full index of artists and venues

Art in August begins on Thursday, August 1, 2019 with a gala opening reception at the Griffin Museum of Photography, 67 Shore Road, from 7:00–8:30 pm. The reception is generously sponsored by Winchester Savings Bank, La Patisserie Bakery and Cafe, the Griffin Museum of Photography. Throughout the month there will be artist receptions on Thursday nights.
Residents enjoy spending time downtown to view the art exhibits, artists get some welcome exposure, and businesses support their community—and often get to meet some very interesting artists.
The event will also include Art in the Park, a morning’s celebration of hands-on art for all ages held on Saturday, August 17 on the Town Common in association with the Farmers’ Market. There will be easel painting, a clay table, fabric collage, and more.
Art in August is sponsored by the Winchester Cultural Council and the Winchester Artists Network (WAN).
All events are free of charge to the public.
