Utility Box Art Springs Up in 2024

Winchester's utility box art program completed its second year in 2024 with seven artists decorating boxes throughout town, under the sponsorship of the Winchester Cultural Council. The art brings a touch of beauty to what had been a utilitarian street object and gives these local artists a showcase for their creativity and skill. The artists are Teri Coté, Livi and Deb DePeter, Mary Garrity, Kristine Kamikawa, Holly Khalil, Olivia and Jennifer Warner, and Kiyomi Yatsuhashi.

Shown here are photographs of the completed utility box designs. More utility box art can be seen in the story about this program's first year.

Teri Coté added graceful swans to a box in the parking lot between Town Hall and the Public Library.

Livi and Deb DePeter brought a colorful VW bus to the Town Common, near the Main Street Rotary.

Mary Garrity brightened a shaded corner on the Common with fanciful flowers.

Kristine Kamikawa transformed the utility box by the tennis courts (on Lake Street) with a bright design featuring dual tennis players.

Holly Khalil was inspired by the natural life she sees on her daily walks to create a design on Johnson Road near Vinson-Owen School that features a bee and rabbit on one side and birds, cherry blossoms, vines, and leaves on the other.

Olivia and Jennifer Warner painted a bold and bright design with a positive message on the box at the McCall Middle School skateboard park.

Kiyomi Yatsuhashi created a design inspired by nature, with abstract elements evoking flowing skies, water and fields, at Church Street near the intersection with Fletcher Street.

We thank all of their artists for their lasting contributions to our town! The Cultural Council plans to continue the program in Summer 2025.
