MCC's new COVID-19 Relief Fund for Individuals

Submitted by Council Chair on

The Massachusetts Cultural Council has launched the COVID-19 Relief Fund for Individuals, grants of $1,500 for Massachusetts individual artists and independent teaching artists/humanists/scientists who have lost income as a direct result of COVID-19 related cancellations and closures. The application deadline is February 2, 2021.

Grants are for legal residents of Massachusetts 18 years or older who have reported taxable income in their most recent tax return related to earnings working as an individual artist or art-related teacher, where that income represented more than 25% of total income from all sources in at least one of the past three years.

Recipients must demonstrate at least $1,500 of lost income directly related to COVID-19 that is not eligible to be recouped through Massachusetts unemployment benefits. This could include lost revenue due to canceled jobs/gigs, classes, performances, exhibitions, shows, residencies; organizational closures and/or suspended operations; or lost sales, commissions, vendor fees from cancelled markets, events, or exhibitions.

Those who received a grant from the COVID-19 Relief Fund for Individuals in FY20 are not eligible for the new program.

On January 21, there will be a virtual info session for prospective applicants:
