Augmented reality (AR) is an important part of the Winchester Cultural District's 2023 Waterfield Festival of the arts. Winchester residents will have the opportunity to show their AR artwork in Winchester as part of the festival. You can learn more and get hands-on experience with AR at a free workshop sponsored by the Winchester Cultural District this Saturday, May 6, from 9 am to 3 pm, at the Jenks Center. Space is limited, but there is still room! Sign up at

AR Is an opportunity to move your art into the “virtual” world, to present something that can be seen just about anywhere and at any time by people on their cell phones, tablets, or other devices. You can create artworks, if you like, that complement or interact with the environment. AR can include images such as photos or drawings, videos (including people who could speak directly to viewers), text, and sound.

Saturday's workshop will be run by Hoverlay, a Boston-area company that is one of the major players in the field. You can find out more about what Hoverlay is doing at their website and especially at their page on “Immersive Media Trailblazers”:

The workshop is funded in part by a grant from the Winchester Cultural Coucil, supported by funding from the Town of Winchester.
