Winchester's utility box art program completed its third year in 2025 with four artists decorating boxes throughout town, under the sponsorship of the Winchester Cultural Council. The art brings a touch of beauty to what had been a utilitarian street object and gives these local artists a showcase for their creativity and skill. The 2025 artists were Gena Bronson, James DePeter, Fenway Fan, and Holly Khalil.
Shown here are photographs of the completed utility box designs. More utility box art can be seen in stories about the program last year (2025) and in its first year (2024).
Gena Bronson enlivened Bellino Park (near Swanton Street) with colorful paintings of squirrels and birds, a design called "Squirrel Symmetry" that was inspired by the big oak tree on the Winchester Common.

James DePeter put a bright red cardinal perched in a blueberry bush on a prominent box on Bacon Street near the Wedgemere train station. Both the cardinal and blueberry are native to Massachusetts and an important part of Winchester's natural environment.

Fenway Fan created a truly magical design with the inspired collaboration of some of her of students on a box on Water Street near Main Street (near Winchester Optical).

Holly Khalil beautified the spot in front Winchester Mt. Vernon House where there had recently been a landscaping change with a whimsical design that features flowers, branches and colorful insects.

We thank all of their artists for their lasting contributions to our town! The Cultural Council plans to continue the program in Summer 2025.
