Call for Artists: Juried Fine Art and Craft Fair at Winchester’s Farmer’s Market, August 6

The Winchester Cultural Council is holding a juried art fair on Saturday August 6 at the Farmer’s Market on the Town Common. A jury comprised of WCC members, practicing artists, art teachers, and committee members will judge original artwork of professional quality in any medium for acceptance. A cash prize will be awarded for Best in Show. Approximately 25 booth spaces are available. Application deadline is July 29th. Application fee is $55. Please download PDF application for all details. Winchester Cultural Council invites you to an afternoon of Taiko drumming presented by Odaiko New England, a Woburn-based Japanese drumming group. Odaiko blends traditional Taiko drumming with Cuban, Latino, and jazz influences, making an exuberant experience that is sure to delight and mesmerize the whole family. Winchester’s Winter Fiesta a Smashing Success!

Winchester’s Winter Fiesta, held by the Winchester Cultural Council and FANSplash on Saturday evening, was a spirited success. Over 200 Winchester residents took a fun break from the dismal weather Saturday evening at the town hall auditorium, festively decorated with hundreds of balloons, pinatas, flowers, and real and inflatable cacti. The sounds of the Tequila Amigos latin orchestra and the fresh margaritas warmed up the crowd.

The Fiesta’s proceeds benefit the WCC and FANSplash. Says Don Daniel, WCC chair, “we invited FANSplash to partner with us in organizing this event because there are so many great fundraising efforts happening now in town. By joining forces, Winchester’s Winter Fiesta was truly a win-win for both organizations, and for all the Winchester residents our missions benefit.” FANSplashheld a successful naming rights auction, hosted by Allan Eyden, to raise funds for the splash park at Borgaarrd Beach. Eyden even added an impromptu auction item: to have drinks served to the winner’s table by State Representative Jason Lewis.

The WCC raised funds to nearly double their annual budget allocated by the state, which they will grant to projects in Winchester to expand cultural opportunities for residents. Donna Campbell, WCC member, said, “I’m so excited next year we can fund twice the grants we normal do.”

2010 Grant Recipients Announced

The Winchester Cultural Council (WCC) has awarded $4,000 in state funds to eight projects to enrich the cultural life of the town. The funded projects expand cultural opportunities for Winchester’s young students and senior citizens, help Winchester residents hear distinguished performers, and celebrate and strengthen our community through the arts.

The 2010 funded projects are:

Authorfest 2010, Tequila Amigos Latin Orchestra, Reading is Magic, Pied Potter Hamelin’s Magic Potter’s Wheel, Broadway Piano (a vocal show for seniors), Salute to the Great American Songbook, Dance in the Fells and a concert by Quintessential Brass.

Come experience the first funded program of 2010 at Winchester’s Winter Fiesta, a fundraiser co-hosted by WCC and FANSplash, featuring the 8-piece Tequila Amigos Latin Orchestra, this Saturday, March 13th, 7:30 at the Town Hall Auditorium. Advance tickets may be purchased at Book Ends, Winchester Wine & Spirits, or online at WinchesterCulturalCouncil.org for $25/person, $40/couple. Tickets at the door are $30/person, $50/couple.

The Winchester Cultural Council is a local government body consisting of volunteers, appointed by the Board of Selectmen, who work to serve the artistic and cultural life of the town. The State of Massachusetts, through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, gives Winchester funds each year to support the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences. This money is awarded by the WCC to local individuals and groups who meet state and local requirements. Anyone may apply for funding and applications are now being accepted for programs to take place in 2011. Winter Fiesta

The Winchester Cultural Council and FAN’s Borggaard Beach Revitalization Committee are pleased to present a Cultural Fiesta to be held on March 13th from 7:30 to 10:30 pm at the Town Hall Auditorium to help raise funds for the arts in Winchester and the revitalization of Borrggard Beach.

Live salsa music performed by the 8-piece Tequila Amigos Latin Orchestra will be sure to liven up the room! Light refreshments and a cash bar will also be available. We are pleased to announce Allan Eyden will take to the stage as our honored guest and auctioneer and a 50/50 raffle will also be taking place throughout the night.

You can show your support for the community and for the spirit of the occasion prior to the event by becoming an event sponsor, program advertiser, or by reserving a private table- you can even select a donor package option!
